More use of GDAL/OGR

Nov 3, 2011 at 3:23 PM

We're using GDAL/OGR in the ocx for a long time now and it is working great.
Of course we need to continue with that.

In the last years a lot of new stuff have been implemented in GDAL/OGR which we are not yet using.

For example, GDAL/OGR allows to load a shapefile without any fields or with only a few specific ones.
This approach hugely improves the performance of large shapefiles that have a lot of attributes.

Also GDAL/OGR produces a lot of executables:
gdal_contour.exe
gdal_grid.exe
gdal_rasterize.exe
gdal_translate.exe
gdaladdo.exe
gdalbuildvrt.exe
gdaldem.exe
gdalenhance.exe
gdalinfo.exe
gdallocationinfo.exe
gdalmanage.exe
gdaltindex.exe
gdaltransform.exe
gdalwarp.exe
nearblack.exe
ogr2ogr.exe
ogrinfo.exe
ogrtindex.exe

It would be great if these can be implemented in the ocx.
Together with a few tools for the toolbox MapWindow would gain a lot of additional functionality with minimum effort.
