Make use of MPICH2?

MPICH2 is a message-passing interface that allows an application (like TauDEM) to use multiple threads and so run faster on modern multi-core processors.
However, to take advantage of this feature you need to install MPICH2 (http://www.mcs.anl.gov/research/projects/mpich2)

Should we try to implement MPI in the OCX?
It might improve the performance, but can also make MW less stable and perhaps the effort is too high to implement this.
